This digital painting was inspired by the only known likeness of Orffyreus as found in John Collins original copy of Johann Bessler's publication, "Das Triumphirende Perpetuum Mobile ORFFYREANUM". Copies of "Das Triumphirende" including translation available from John Collins here

Beneath the oilcloth covering of his remarkable wheel hides a solution to the ages old search for the perpetually overbalanced wheel. Where all else had failed before him, Orffyreus alone succeeded.
